All Things New

All Things New

What ‘new’ thing is God doing in you? What new thing is he doing through you?

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Isaiah 43:19

In Matthew 9:16-17, Jesus speaks of new wine skins that are needed in order to contain the new wine.

No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.

Matthew 9:16-17

Here Jesus is referring to something completely new and fresh and in order to contain it, a new wineskin is needed.

Some of the ‘new’ God is doing requires a completely new and fresh perspective to contain.

Let us not throw out all of the old however. Consider the ‘ancient’ paths. Learn from those who’ve gone before.

Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.

Jeremiah 6:16

Seek a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to give you a fresh perspective and a new understanding, that you may receive the new thing he is doing in and through you. Learn from what you have learnt. Gain insight and understanding from those who’ve gone before us and let the Lord lead you into what he has next for you.

And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.

Matthew 13:51

Be trained for the kingdom of heaven by bringing out of the treasure in you both the old and the new.
